Why learn French with Flashlingo?

How the levels work
Every language deck on Flashlingo comes in three levels, so you can start where you actually are instead of where a textbook assumes you are.
- Beginner โ the 500 highest-frequency words: greetings, numbers, everyday objects and simple phrases.
- Intermediate โ broader everyday vocabulary spread across 24 topic categories, from food and travel to family and work.
- Expert โ less common but genuinely useful words that push you past textbook basics toward natural, fluent vocabulary.
Tips for learning French vocabulary faster
- Say new words out loud, not just silently โ French pronunciation is a skill in itself.
- French spelling doesn't always match pronunciation: many final consonants are silent (the โtโ in โpetit,โ for example), so trust your ears as much as your eyes.
- Notice the gender of nouns (le/la) and try to learn the article together with the word rather than separately.
- Switch to Hard mode once a category feels easy โ typing the word from memory locks it in far better than recognizing it in a list.
- Ten focused minutes a day beats one long session a week. Spaced repetition is what actually moves words into long-term memory.
A few words to start with
Bonjour (hello), Merci (thank you), S'il vous plaรฎt (please), Oui / Non (yes / no), and Au revoir (goodbye) will get you through more real conversations than you'd expect.

Relatively approachable โ thanks to Norman French's influence on English after 1066, roughly a third of English vocabulary has French or Latin roots, so a lot of words will look more familiar than you expect.
It depends on how often you practice, but at around 15 minutes a day most learners work through the Beginner deck in three to four weeks.
Start at Beginner anyway. It's a quick way to calibrate the deck to your pace, and you can jump to Intermediate or Expert the moment it feels too easy.
